Candace Hope is an Ada Comstock Scholar at Smith College, where she studies Government and Spanish, with a concentration in Community Engagement and Social Change. Before starting her academic journey, she spent fifteen years fine-tuning her visual storytelling skills as a professional photographer and creative producer, frequently collaborating with local farms and nonprofits. Alongside this work she also grew food, medicinal and culinary herbs, and flowers for her community. Through these efforts, Candace developed a deep love and reverence for the land, and an interest in learning about different models for community-based land stewardship around the world.
Candace has been awarded a year-long fellowship from the Jandon Center at Smith College, and is using this opportunity to work with The Farmers Land Trust for the 2026-2027 academic year. During this time, she’ll focus on developing a series of case studies for some of the farmland commons projects in development—bringing the complex stories of how these projects have come to life into a single resource that is accessible and easy to share.
