From Vision to Action: Changing How We Hold Land
Across the country, something remarkable is happening. What began as a vision for a more just, accessible, and regenerative relationship to land is taking root and growing fast.
The Farmers Land Trust was founded on a bold idea: that farmers and communities should be able to hold and steward farmland outside of speculative markets. In just two short years, that idea has evolved into a national movement reshaping how land is owned and cared for.
Together, we’ve built the Farmland Commons model, an open-source legal framework that communities everywhere can use to take land out of the marketplace and return it to shared stewardship. This groundwork has already mobilized hundreds of thousands of dollars in pro bono legal and technical support and collaboration with over 20 nonprofit partners, creating new opportunities for communities that might otherwise be priced out of land access and locally grown food.
