Farming is a tough life, long days full of chores to keep things growing and healthy so that operation runs smoothly. But for some they just feel that it’s a calling like Sarah and Jason Ricks, who dreamed of having their own on which to raise their kids.
However, they kept running into a common problem for new farmers, especially nowadays, finding affordable land. The problem is nationwide but for a feel of the scale, in Ohio where the Ricks were looking for land, the price has risen from $3,180 per acre two decades ago to $9,350 per acre reports Farm and Dairy. In just one year alone, cropland rose by 9.7% between 2023 and 2024.
