Title:  Remote, Per-diem Writer (up to 5 hours weekly)


Pay Range:  $23.00 to $26.00 per hour (not benefits eligible)


Who We Are:  We are The Farmers Land Trust, a fiscally sponsored project of Sponsor, Inc (dba Mission Earth). Our mission is to develop equitable, scalable, and inspiring solutions to protect farmland and secure tenure for farmers through supporting and building the Farmland Commons movement as it manifests in communities across the country and around the globe.  


What We Do:  We engage in community supported agriculture (CSA), biodynamic or organic-practicing farms, Indigenous communities utilizing cultural stewardship practices, and with faith communities interested in transitioning land to community ownership for regenerative agriculture and social justice.

We seek to hire a dynamic, per-diem (part-time), temporary, self-motivated, experienced Writer to generate interesting stories about regenerative agriculture.  The successful candidate will have at least a working knowledge of agriculture as well as an interest in social justice.  The person hired will work from home creating content that tells the story of our stakeholders in furtherance of our mission to protect and transition farmland and secure affordable tenure for next generation farmers.


As a per-diem Writer at The Farmers Land Trust, you’ll get to show off your excellent writing skills on a variety of projects related to your assigned area of focus.   More specifically, you’ll get to:

  •  Develop ideas for and write engaging content that aligns with our mission and strategy, and addresses the needs and interests of our multiple stakeholders;

  • Collaborate with team members to develop engaging content that promotes internal and external stakeholder engagement;

  • Research and interview key stakeholders and subject-matter experts when needed;

  • Tell the stories of our organization and land, farmers, communities, and stakeholders in ways that expand awareness of the needs and issues surrounding farmland, farmers, agriculture, and food, while informing and engaging donors and others in support of our work, and helping TFLT to achieve our organizational goals.

  • Most importantly, you’ll be helping to make a difference.


Required Education and/or Experience:


  •  Completion of a bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or a related field;

  •  At least 2 years of experience as a freelance or employed writer;

  •  At least 1 year of experience researching and/or writing about agriculture, regenerative agriculture, biodynamic agriculture, or a related topic;

  • Ability to work effectively on a remote-work basis with multiple deadlines; 

  • Flexible schedule and availability;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and grammar in English;

  • At least 2 years of experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive; 

  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit work submitted to TFLT standard.

  • Demonstrable experience in creating content that meets TFLT’s standards for structure, substance, sequence and style.

  • Other reasonable or related duties as assigned.


Preferred Experience:

  •  Samples of previously published work.

  •  At least 1 year of experience utilizing SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tools and techniques.

  • Ability to meet fast deadlines or to manage multiple stories simultaneously when needed;
